BK Live in KC

Beautiful piano melodies mixed with hip-hop. A unique mix, it is! Last night Kansas City native Brian Kennedy, musician/pianist/producer extraordinaire performed in front of a medium size crowd at the Caribbean Cove inside the Isle of Capri Casino.

Playing with a live band, bringing fresh sounds and renditions of songs like Brian McKnight’s “Anytime” brought a warm loving feeling to the atmosphere. Kennedy’s relaxed way of playing, but obvious focus is intriguing. He performed many of his own tunes that can’t even be categorized.

Kennedy and his four piece band showed out, with a almost 10 minute set allowing people to get lost in the mesmerizing music. At the end of his performance, showcasing his producing talents on the spot, he included his mom and other members in the audience to help him with the beat.

A mixed crowd, of young and old, black and white outwardly enjoyed his friends that he brought along with him too. Rapper Chief Wakil came with an energetic performance of his own, rapping about the hardships of love in his song “It’s cheaper to keep her” and the self-confident song “I’m so cool”.

There were only a few brief intermissions that were filled in by the sounds of DJ Q on the one’s and two’s. Next to take the stage, was singer Gavin Rhone. Rhone sang a soulful rendition of KC and JoJo hit “All my Life” and Smokie Norful’s “I need you now” working and woo-ing the crowd with his smooth stage presence.

If you like pure good music, with creativity and style, and no lyrics needed you need to see Brian Kennedy live.

Check out Brian Kennedy and friends again tonight, June 14, 2008 at 9pm Isle of Capri Casino, Kansas City, Missouri.
